I have always been interested in why the skin behaves in the way it does.

From about 6 months old I developed eczema, as I grew up and started going to school from about age 6 onwards I was always ridiculed for it and called not very nice names.... I know, kids can be mean, but to be honest, I think that behaviour is learnt from somewhere in their environment.

I used to feel different and wonder why I was in the minority and couldn't understand why I was suffering from this skin condition and many others weren't?

Anyway! As I reached my twenties/thirties, I started to learn about, skincare & facial massage, which lead to meditation, nutrition and naturopathy. The combination of all of this seemed to really help my skin, especially meditation for my anxiety, which at the time, I never realised I had, including lots of food allergies.

Nowadays, whenever my skin plays up and starts acting differently (excluding menopause, because well, lets face it, that's another story.), I tend to look at the foods I consume, new skincare that may be affecting it or any emotional webs and flow's I might be experiencing....

So! Let's delve a bit deeper about our skin, (the largest organ of the body) and what it does for us on a regular basis, as well as many other job's, like.... Defending us from our external environment (Yes! I love that word, I know!), like toxins, free radicals, extreme sunlight, viruses and disease's etc... But wait! It doesn't stop there, it also has a big job to do within our body, like keeping us warm when we are cold, excreting sweat to cool us down when we are too hot, making us blush when are are shy or embarrassed. More then this if we develop a rash, our skin is telling us we have an allergy, if our skin turns yellow, it could be an indicator that the liver is in distress, to be honest I could go on and on forever pointing the different ways in which the skin is trying to get our attention.

Personally, I feel the most important thing our skin does for us is looking after our vital organs on the inside, keeping them all safe and protected, Now! do you see why we should show the skin a lot more respect then we do?..... It's job is so huge! Keeping it strong and healthy from the inside out.

Gut Skin Axis -Yes! Its a thing and the two are very much connected, what we eat or put into our body, effects how the skin behaves and how the two influence each other. It's the microbiome in the gut that impact's the way the skin relates to what's going on inside. Microbiome is made up of trillions of bacteria, microorganisms, fungi and the skin has it's own microbiome as well, which lives on the surface. The microbiome in the skin and gut help to protect the body from overall health and well being.

The skin and gut's microbiome communicate through various pathways reacting to it's condition, good or bad.

Hopefully I have explained the skins crucial role and why I am so in awe and do my best to take care of it. Now! Don't me me wrong, I'm not perfect, there are times I haven't treated my body well, like eating sugary foods I'm allergic to, that i find hard to resist at times. When I have seen the error of my ways, I turn on the reset button, allow myself to be conscious again and do something about it!

Doing your very best to take care of you, is all anyone can really do xxx
